Abstract
This paper discusses the electric stress distribution at the solid-gas interface for a spacer with fixed spherical or cylindrical conducting particle on its surface. Finite Element Method has been employed to compute the tangential and normal components of electric field at the dielectric interface. The effect of the particle shape, size, location on electric stress distribution at solid-gas interface are discussed. Experimental investigations to understand the behaviour of spacers with conducting particle on its surface and subjected to lightning impulse voltages (1.2/50 μsec) under uniform electric field conditions in compressed gases are discussed
