Automobiles have become a vital element of Japan´s modern transportation infrastructure today and are indispensable to the conduct of daily life as well as to the country´s industrial structure. Automobiles convey 71% of the people transported in Japan, account for 65% of the total transported population-kilometers and haul 91% of the nation´s total freight tonnage.
