Abstract
In this paper we investigate how business group is built from an emerging market perspective. We find that property rights, market development and financial institution are important determinants of business group. Business group is popular when investor protection is weak; the less developed the market, the more possible to build up business group; and the development of financial institution reduces the incentive of group formation.
