Abstract
The single ended magnetic latching function design for an optical switch has been developed in recent years. It adopts the balance principle of restoring force and magnetic force to achieve an on-off bi-stable state. This paper proposes a novel two poles magnetic self-latching function design for an optical switch application. Using a two poles magnetic self-latching design has the features of compactness, contactless and frictionless switching, zero power consumption at on or off state and no overshoot effect during bi-state on-off operation. A 2×2 optical switch developed by two poles magnetic self-latching function design has been developed for evaluation.
