Abstract
Broad wall slots are ideally suited for modern applications involving reduced-height waveguides because of constraints in size and weight. They have been analyzed by very accurate mathematical and computer models. The versatility of such arrays is typified by applications such as the wind scatterometer and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) in the ERS-1 satellite. Investigations in compound slots have shown their potential for realizing shaped beams, and their ability to compensate for external mutual coupling. The authors review advances in broadwall slots. Some of the ongoing activities and future challenges are summarized
