Abstract
The paper develops a pulse width modulation (PWM) strategy for reducing the higher frequency components of the output voltage of an ac voltage controller. The process of translating a fixed rms voltage at the input to a variable rms voltage at fixed frequency at the output augurs a definite mechanism for eliminating the sequence of harmonic components. It intrigues the creation of an appropriate sinusoidal reference to assuage the increase in the fundamental component and ensure the regulation of the load voltage over a range of operating loads. The theory arbitrates the nuances of modulating the pulse width in the operation of the power switches in the ac-ac converter. The microcontroller based experimental results obtained from a prototype forge to validate the simulation response and vitiate its use for application in the practical world.
