Abstract
The advanced communication technology, which is considered here, stems from spread spectrum, error correction coding, and waveform modulation techniques. Communication efficiency, design flexibility, and high jamming resistance of a communication system are enhanced by fully utilizing three available resources: time, frequency, and code. Because the coding scheme should be analyzed in conjunction with the signal design to determine the tradeoffs between different coding/modulation schemes, a unified, analytical technique is developed. The developed technique is demonstrated in this paper to compare the performance attainable in several digital communication systems and to evaluate various coding schemes
