Abstract
This paper summarises the main principles behind HSDPA (high speed downlink packet access) for UMTS, as is currently being specified in the 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project). It considers the performance that may be achieved for streaming services and presents simulation results showing that HSDPA can support real-time streaming. The effects of different packet scheduling algorithms and antenna diversity are also discussed.
