Abstract
In variable-speed AC or DC drives, improved responses can be obtained by using fuzzy logic control. The paper discusses the application of fuzzy logic to variable-speed drives and gives a general overview of the structure of fuzzy controllers and various aspects of fuzzy-control. A new fuzzified controller is also introduced. The application of fuzzy controllers to DC drives is discussed in detail and simulation results are also presented for a DC drive which incorporates three controllers, a speed controller, an armature current controller and a flux controller. These results are compared to results obtained by using conventional controllers and the advantages of using fuzzy controllers are also discussed
