Abstract
The Mars Advanced Radar for Subsurface and Ionosphere Sounding (MARSIS) will fly aboard the European Space Agency Mars Express orbiter, launching in 2003, to perform subsurface, surface and ionosphere soundings on a global scale. The authors describe the main features of the radar sounder and have shown the expected penetration performance according to simplified models of the Martian crust composition and geometric structure
