Abstract
This paper deals with the detailed analytical overview of performance optimization through dynamic power control in GSM Networks. The strategies for power control as applicable for mobile stations and base stations have been discussed. Concept of performance optimization diagram as applicable to live GSM and GPRS networks has been presented from quality, received level and Handovers point of view. Algorithms for power control as applicable to various scenarios have been discussed. Implementation of the same and results obtained thereof are presented. Effect of dynamic power control on various phenomenon like hand over performance, MS and BTS Transmit power, received quality and level, MS battery life, idle channel measurements, hierarchical cell structure, TCH allotment strategies, immediate assignment on TCH and receiver saturation have been presented for a live GSM network with recommendations.
