Abstract
Vector control is well established as the preferred control strategy in industrial a.c. drives as it offers excellent control with what is by today´s standards a relatively modest amount of processing power. By adopting “vector control” as the basic control methodology is relatively simple to implement open loop vector, closed loop vector and permanent magnet servo drives, as well as a sinusoidal rectifier, as many of the function blocks are the same. In a commercial drive the processing power must be cost effective. This is especially true in a product such as Control Techniques “Unidrive” where the same hardware can be used in any of the previously mentioned modes of operation. In a mass market product it is also important that the drive needs the minimum of setting up and user knowledge
