Abstract
In this paper, we present a method for synthesis of decentralized H2 optimal controllers with regional pole constraints. These constraints are described directly in terms of the spectrum of the closed loop matrix rather than by Lyapunov equations or LMI forms, enabling the consideration of a more general and practical pole regions as well as partial pole constraints. The method of multipliers is used to relax the constraints, and the system H2 norm, rather than some upper bound or auxiliary cost, can be minimized. This approach can also be used to optimize the static output feedback matrix with arbitrary controller-structure constraints. The design of passive tuned-mass dampers is given as an example to illustrate the algorithm and its application.
