  • Abstract
License plate recognition (LPR) is an important part of intelligent transportation management (ITM). All of the information of the vehicle can be acquired by recognizing the license plate which is unique to the owner. This paper proposed an embedded system which is used to charge the toll on freeway with no parking. This system is significant to the ITM. The system includes multiple processors such as multiple DSPs and FPGAs. By using multiple high speed processors, the accuracy of the recognition can be kept at a high rate. This system contains two FPGA and three high speed DSP (TMS320C6713). The C6713DSP can operate at 225 MHz, and deliver up to 1350 million floating-point operations per second (MFLOPS), 1800 million instructions per second (MIPS). This characteristic is quite fit the application of the freeway auto charge.
