Abstract
In many industrial applications outputs of plants and control signals are measured and generated at different rates, leading to multirate control systems. It is generally believed that the optimal multirate controller performs better than the optimal slow single-rate controller but worse than the optimal fast single-rate controller. This conjecture is theoretically proved in this paper for general multirate systems. As a measure of the quality of control, we use the Hinfin; norm of the closed-loop system
