Abstract
A generalized clustered look-ahead transformation for realizing stable pipelined IIR digital filters is presented. It is shown that this improvement achieves more efficient hardware architectures than those created by using the scattered look-ahead transformation, at the price of a small degradation in processing speed. With only one more multiplier/accumulator in the numerator and one more carry-save adder in the denominator, the processing speed of a second-order IIR digital filter can be increased by a factor of nearly 2 over the conventional implementation
