Abstract
The paper presents the design of a talking thermometer based on microcontroller MC68HC11. It announces the temperature in both Fahrenheit and Celsius using a SPO 256-AL2 speech synthesis integrated circuit from General Instruments. The E port of MC68HC11 is used as an input port, which converts the voltage received from the transducer into an 8-bit number. The thermometer was built and tested, it exhibits an accuracy of ±1°F
