  • Abstract
A spread-spectrum multiple-access (SSMA) scheme that utilizes a group coding technique using a subset of signature sequences, in which the size of the subset is considerably less than the number of radios in the system, is proposed for packet radio communications. A direct-sequence spread-spectrum (DS-SS) signaling is adopted to combat fading effects through the multipath diversity reception exploiting the property of high time resolution. System performance is investigated in terms of the error rate achievable by deriving the probability distribution of the number of collision-free paths and characterizing the effects of the primary and secondary user interferences
