  • Abstract
This paper presents a technique for automatic generation of software models for any type of microprocessor-based relay. The proposed technique has been developed into an interactive software package which collects relay specifications and produces a software model for the intended relay. The generated models also provide animated performance display during simulation runs and include tools for post analysis of online computed parameters. To demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed technique, software models for an overcurrent relay and a distance relay were produced and tested. Their performance was compared against results obtained from testing the physical relays. The comparisons proved the generated models to be very accurate in calculated parameters and trip timings. Some results are included in the paper
