Abstract
To explore a new application of semiconductor diode laser, the paper proposes laser control pest. Locusta Migratoria Manilensis Meyen and Locust Nymphae were divided into irradiation groups and comparison groups by different instars. High power semiconductor diode laser (wavelength 808 nm and power 2 watt) was chosen and the heads, wings and abdomens of Locusta Migratoria Manilensis Meyen nymphs and adults were irradiated at different time and the distance 2 cm from laserpsilas emitting plane, and the heads of Locust Nymphae nymphs were irradiated at different time and distances. The mortality of Locusta Migratoria Manilensis Meyen was observed 3 days after treatment. At the same time the mortality of Locust Nymphae was statistic at the instant time, five hours and 48 hours after treatment. The results showed that irradiating heads had better control effect than irradiating wings and abdomens, and irradiating abdomens had the lowest mortality. The power density is higher, irradiation time is longer, time after irradiation is longer and the locust is younger; the mortality is higher. Preliminary study proved the near infrared laser has better lethal effect on locusts.
