Abstract
"I don\´t have time for outreach, my research takes all my time." This has been the general attitude of university- based research teams for many years. While this may seem to be a true statement, it is quickly becoming unacceptable in the eyes of many granting agencies. This paper will examine recent outreach activities that have centered around the UofL Micro/Nanotechnology Center. The UofL Nanotechnology Fellows Program, an NSF funded summer symposium for high school math and science teachers, will be presented in detail. This very successful event along with other outreach activities will be provided as a framework for other facilities interested in building outreach programs.
