Abstract
This paper presents a new permanent magnet (PM) in-wheel motor for application to electric vehicles (EVs). The key is to design, model, and analyze the proposed machine. It integrates the magnetic gear with PM machine and omitting of the gear inner rotor. Hence, the proposed machine can achieve the low speed high torque output and high speed compact designing requirements and high power density with even simple structure. By using the FEM, the static characteristics of the proposed machine are analyzed. A 750w prototype is designed and built for experimentation. Both simulation and experimental results are given to verify the validity of the proposed machine.
