Abstract
In case of failure, the link state routing protocols need various seconds to converge. This time is a result of their standard reactive approach which can cause several packet drops occur due to incorrect routes. Consequently, this compromises the reliability of an IP network. In this study, we describe a proactive approach to generate recovery paths in order to help routing protocols bypass failures. A simulator was used to conduct an evaluation, which showed these paths need a smaller extension in the forwarding table compared with other approaches. The evaluation also reduced the packet drop rate during the IP routing protocol convergence.
