Abstract
This paper presents a rapid adaptive channel equalizer and diversity combining technique for application in the US digital cellular system. The equalizer operates adaptively in order to cope with the time-varying nature of the cellular/mobile radio channel and the burst structure of time division multiple access (TDMA) transmission. The performance of the equalizer for fading channel with and without diversity combining is investigated. Our simulation results indicate that this techniques is numerically stable and provides a powerful means to reduce the intersymbol interference (ISI) produced by the radio channel
