  • Abstract
In this paper, the prototype of a specially-designed ultrasonic motor (USM) for driving a small type ball valve plant and an opening control scheme for its operating valve in a piping system are presented. The proposed prototype of the USM for driving the valve includes some significant and acceptable advantages such as direct-drive operation, hollow structure and large holding torque. The control software consists of improved fuzzy reasoning logic with two-inputs and one-output, and some related peculiar control methods for the USM. Experimental results prove that this cost-effective system can be sufficiently applied to various piping plant by introducing a positioning opening control scheme of the USM drive ball valve using fuzzy reasoning logic
