  • Abstract
    This paper investigates a four-phase fault-tolerant permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) for electric vehicles (EVs). The design principle of multiphase fault-tolerant PMSM is analyzed, the choice of electromagnetic schemes is investigated, and a 12kW four-phase PMSM is designed. The machine performances are optimized from aspects of pole-arc coefficient, eccentricity of permanent magnets, etc. Based on the optimized model, the machine performances under different operating conditions are evaluated by finite-element analysis.
