  • Abstract
In high-level mechanico-electro-optical (MEO) systems, imaging sensors and line of sight (LOS) deflecting mirrors are used. In many applications such as fire control, missile homing, or visual detection, these sensors are required to provide very accurate angular target position. Accuracy of the system performance is obviously a function of the biases and random noises present throughout the system, as well as of the implementation techniques used. It is argued that, by choosing the adequate implementation technique, more than optimization of the system´s performance is gained. Often the deliberate investigation of the implementation issues provides valuable insight into the causes and the sources of errors. To exemplify the complex interdependencies of these concepts, and to demonstrate the power and limitations of the technique introduced, a general description of a generic LOS is presented. Basic implementation considerations are discussed
