Abstract
This paper investigates the parameter estimation of permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSMs) for aiding the PI regulator design of field oriented control. Electrical and mechanical parameters, such as rotor PM flux linkage, winding resistance, dq-axis inductances, combined coefficient of viscous friction and moment of inertia of rotor and load, are estimated separately. It is found that with the aid of estimated machine parameters, the optimized PI regulators can be easily determined and show very good experimental performance.
