Abstract
One approach to designing an online help facility for a pictorial instruction set is to create a text database which contains functional profiles of each object displayed in the instructions. A framework for creating such a database is described along with a method for constructing the individual object profiles. Object profiles are also discussed in terms of how they provide a foundation for evaluating the clarity, consistency, and completeness of pictorial instruction presentations
