Abstract
Virtual Reality (VR) is one of the developing hi-techs in recent years. For the purpose of users´ controlling a computer-generated virtual object with only fingertips, a fingertip positioning scheme is brought forth within this paper, which performs as follows: The system uses the elliptical model to detect the skin regions, then locates fingertips after thinning the region; meanwhile, two parallel cameras are calibrated and rectified so that images captured from them are in a same plane. After that, the fingertips´ coordinates are calculated on the foundation of the binocular vision theory. The system has been proved efficient via several experiments, which also prove that the system is light insensitive.
