Abstract
This paper presents the use of an RTDS simulator for the verification of HVDC control and protection. For high accurate firing and high frequency requirement, a new approach for an Advanced Hybrid HVDC Real-Time Simulator using classical physical models for the converter section in combination with a complex fully digital AC and DC power system simulator implemented on RTDS is developed. The realization and performance verification of its interface are described in this paper. This hybrid simulator type has been chosen for Chinese Tian-Guang HVDC project tests. Based on the testing of HVDC control and protection, the detailed hybrid simulator setup is formulated. Compared with EMTDC research, the control and protection performance is verified and the results are also given
