  • Abstract
The boost structure allows the minimization of the current constraints in the switch. It is possible to include a transformer in a boost structure and several isolated topologies are well known. In general, lot of switches are necessary but the advantage of little current in each one is conserved. Unfortunately, the boost and its derived structures do not allow the control of the current in a short-circuit or an over-load operation. In this paper, a comparison of the main characteristics of the derived boost converters to other ones is done. A boost converter with galvanic isolation able to control the input current is presented. A 500 W/250 kHz prototype based on this principle is also shown.
