Abstract
The paper considers methods for the identification of random error variances in power system telemetry. This information is used in a software package for electric power system (EPS) state estimation in real-time. The technique of forming test equations and two algorithms of identifying variances, which are constructed using the calculation of imbalance correlations in a pair of test equations with a common telemetry, are described. By the results of study and the comparison of two offered algorithms, recommendations with respect to their application to adaptive algorithms for EPS state estimation under real operating conditions are given. Data on the realization of one of the suggested methods in a software package for state estimation and numerical results obtained by processing real telemetries in the Central Dispatching Board of the unified electric power system of Russia are presented
