  • Abstract
We study and propose joint power control and cell-site selection schemes for cognitive cellular radios in fading channels. New analytical result on the cognitive radio cell coverage is presented in terms of the outage probability requirement of the primary cellular radio user. A new interference model for the secondary user (SU) is proposed, which includes the transmit powers from all the primary radio (PR) system co-channel base stations, as well as the transmit powers from multiple secondary transmitters. Joint power control and cell-site selection schemes are presented to maximize the total throughput of the SUs, and to guarantee the quality-of-service (QoS) of the primary cellular radio user in terms of outage probability.
