Abstract
Summary Form only given, as follows. The interaction of heavy ion beams with a Z-pinch hydrogen plasma target has been investigated. The stopping power in the plasma is enhanced by a factor of two as compared to the cold gas. For experiments at higher energy densities, an accelerator facility is under construction. In addition to the investigation of beam-plasma interaction, experiments on beam dynamics in space-charge-dominated regimes are under consideration.<>
