Abstract
A method for increasing controller performance through improved state estimation for systems with position-limited measurements operating at low velocities is presented. Improvements include updating the estimates and control at each measurement instant (rather than after a fixed sampling time) and the use of a multirate scheme between measurement instants. Performance improvement is demonstrated for position control through simulation of track seeking in an optical disk drive and for velocity control through simulation and experiment for a motor/encoder system
