  • Abstract
Modelling of stacked piezoelectric actuators and their utilisation for active structural damping and micropositioning are considered in this paper. The control system advocated is based on H2 measures of performance and stability margin. Through this control design methodology, systematic approach to tradeoff between performance and stability margin is achieved. Experimental results are presented to demonstrate the efficacy of the control design approach and the utilization of piezoceramics as sensors and actuators in active structural damping. Furthermore both standard piezoceramic stacked actuators and stacked actuators through interdigitated electrode pattern are considered here. The stacked actuators provide a higher level of control actuation which is needed for active structural damping
