Abstract
The non-contact profile meter for hot railway solid wheels has been developed using capacitance sensors. The properties of the capacitance sensor are experimentally evaluated and analyzed both for the room temperature targets and for hot targets (up to about 800 degree Celsius). The developed profile meter measures the cross-sectional profiles of hot solid wheels of about 800 mm in diameter within an accuracy of 0.4 mm, which have a steep inclined surface up to ±90 degrees and a corner which have more than 2 mm radius. This profile meter will be applied to profile measurement of other kind of hot products
