Abstract
An accurate measurement of broad-band electrical properties of biological substances is inevitable for investigation of electromagnetic hazard problems in connection with EMC. For the purpose of developing the spectroscopy for biological substances we tried to apply the method to measurement of the properties of beef meet. Our prototype system of time domain reflectometry (TDR) is composed of a digitizing oscilloscope mainframe (HP54120B), test unit (HP54121A), transmission line, sample cell and dc-power supply for temperature control. An incident step pulse and a reflected wave from the sample are digitized and transferred to the computer system of the Computer Center of Tohoku University through the personal-computer PC9801 of NEC Co. and analyzed by ACOS. The frequency dependence of complex permittivity and/or complex conductivity is obtained by a simple equation after Laplace transforming the observed waves in time domain. We will represent a transforming technique covering broad band from 30Hz to 1OGHz. As far as we are aware, there are no reports on the computational technique for the transformation covering such a broad band
