Abstract
The fast multipole virtual boundary element method (VBEM) is used to simulate the 2-D elastic solid containing inclusions in this paper. Basic idea of fast multipole method (FMM) is changing the computational structure to enhance the speed and reduce storage capacity. By adopting the FMM and generalized minimal residual algorithm (GMRES) to solve the equations of VBEM, the operations and memory could be reduced to be of linear proportion to the degree of freedom. The results show that the complex problems can be effectively solved with the method on a common desktop, and the fast multipole VBEM has broad applied prospects in the design and parameters forecast of composite materials.
