Abstract
The authors examine the operational aspects of the FLS/Koppern roller press installed at Southwestern Portland Cement Company´s Victorville, California, plant. A review of the existing manufacturing facilities, a justification of the roll press system (its engineering and construction), and an evaluation of the initial operating experiences are included. It was found that, to obtain the full effect of the roll press, mill internals and ball charges should be redesigned. Recycling of separator reject back to the press in amounts up to 30% of total press feed, has not improved the system performance. Larger recycling of separator reject causes unstable operation of the press. Recycling of pressed flakes has a positive influence on the performance of the system. To date, up to a 35 to 40% increase in output has been achieved. It is projected that final modification and optimization will increase output by a total of 60 to 65% compared with performance before the high-efficiency separator and roll press
