Abstract
An alternative approach to conventional transmission grid protection is presented, which besides being much simpler and more reliable, also avoids the practical shortcomings of using elaborate computational methods. This proposed approach is capable of adapting to unexpected events for directing timely measures that can control power system voltage stability and so maintain the integrity of the EHV transmission grid
