Abstract
Simulations and phantom experiments were conducted to evaluate the performance of 3D elastography. Spherical and irregular shaped inclusions with approximately 5 mm of cross-sectional diameters were reconstructed from the simulated data. For the simulation parameters considered in this work, the axial and the lateral resolution of the 3D elastogram were estimated to be five and ten wavelengths, respectively. The elevational resolution was limited by the spatial sampling of the elastographic image slices. Smooth and irregular shaped inclusions reconstructed from the elastographic data showed a good correlation with their true shape
