Abstract
We have developed a new optimal design scheme that can determine the optimal geometry of a transducer to achieve the highest target performance under given constraints. The new design scheme is illustrated through the design of an underwater Tonpilz transducer made of 1-3 piezocomposite materials. In comparison with conventional analytic and finite element methods, the new design method can determine the optimal geometry with great efficiency and rapidity. Moreover, the technique is so general that it can be applied to any other type of acoustic transducers as well
