  • Abstract
This paper presents a comparative evaluation of three popular power converter topologies for AC/AC power conversion. The goal is to specify the advantages and disadvantages of the hard switched, auxiliary resonant commutated pole and actively clamped resonant DC-link power converters in terms of electric utility application feasibility. Power converter prototypes are developed and subsequently evaluated with regard to electric utility applications. A survey based on the results from other papers are also presented. The outcome is a qualitative guide to the selection of a topology and switching devices to be used in high power electronic devices in the 2 MVA power range
