  • Abstract
This paper describes measurements taken of land mine simulants and possible false targets using a SFCW radar, a hand-held pulse induction metal detector, and an IR camera. Various targets including both a metal and a bakelite anti-tank mine, as well as a PPM-8 antipersonnel land mine, a coke can, a TNT simulant, rocks and small pieces of scrap metal were buried at specific points in a 4 by 3 metre open area of ground. Measurements using the SFCW 1-2 GHz radar and the metal detector were taken both longitudinally and transversely across the area to gain both 1-D and 2-D views of the target. In addition to this measurements were taken with the IR camera at 3-5 and 8-12 μm wavelengths of the same area. The results of these measurements are presented here
