  • Abstract
Summary form only given. Mechatronics consists in synergetics of different disciplines like mechanics, electronics, informatics, etc. Synergetics is a very creative and therefore dynamic process, far more than the usual cooperation of the different disciplines and even more than a close integration of machine hardware and software. Mechatronics offers totally new solutions and an up-to-now unknown flexibility in transportation systems, industrial production processes, automotive components, etc. Its economical success is based on functional integration, i.e. by the multiple use of electrical machines, the decentralization of intelligence into subsystems like single drive systems, and the inherent options for sensorless self-monitoring and system protection, as explained by the given examples.
