Abstract
A neuromorphically implementable model of the retinal ganglion cells has been presented. The model incorporates contribution from both the inner and outer plexiform layer of the retina, taking recent findings from neurophysiology into consideration. It has been shown that such a system is capable of computing zero-crossings of images using fourth or higher order derivatives, a fact which may have neuromorphic implication in generating a derivative analyzer-mimetic of the human visual system as a whole.
