Abstract
Products or systems released on the market today are of an increasing technological complexity and are offering greater numbers of features. Assessing the risk of these products to cause injury to persons or fire can be shown to benefit from a holistic approach to managing the risks throughout the entire lifecycle of the product. The risk management process helps to identify risks associated with a product as early as possible in the design stage. It provides methods to define risk control measures, verify the effectiveness of the control measures and monitor the continued effectiveness of the control measures. Using a risk management system can provide manufacturers with greater confidence in the safety of their products in the market place.
