Abstract
This paper introduces a new approach to analyse matrix converter (MC) stability, aimed to aid stable design of practical MC systems that include input filter and control, accounting for digitisation, calculation delay and input phase locked loop (PLL) effects. The linearisation technique as a method to obtain stability limits is first validated here for a typical MC system with digital implementation by comparison with analytical and simulation results. The technique is then extended in this paper to investigate the inclusion of an input PLL, input voltage vector magnitude filtering, and, alternative modulation strategies for input current under input imbalance
